Glendale-Peoria Today

Four of Deer Valley’s top senior athletes will continue their careers in college after signing national letters of intent. They are:
• Jenny Tyler will pitch for the softball team at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill. She is a four-year varsity letterman and made the all-region softball team in 2008 and 2009. Tyler also is on the school’s cross country and soccer teams.
• Claire Zampini will play softball at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix. She is a four-year varsity letterman and made the all-region softball team in 2008 and 2009, and is a three sport athlete — soccer, softball and track.
• Jacob Doyle, one of the state’s top pitching prospects, will play at the University of Arizona in Tucson. He is a three-year varsity letterman in football and baseball. On the diamond, Doyle is a returning all-region player, the Skyhawks’ ace on the mound and a starting centerfielder when not pitching.
• Kaitlynn Ausmus has accepted a full-ride volleyball scholarship to Grand Canyon University. In volleyball, she was first team all-region in 2098 and 2009 and 5A-II all-state honorable mention in 2008. Ausmus is Deer Valley’s student body president, a member of the National Honor Society and a scholar athlete in 2008 and 2009.
